The Pogues - Montreux Festival July 1996

Post Wed Nov 22, 2006 3:30 pm

I'm fascinated by this show that took place shortly before The Pogues split in '96. Not to be confused with Shane & The Popes at Montreux which is available on DVD.

From what I've read Spider had left so the vocals were shared around the others. There's a set-list on the official Montreux site here:

Does a video/audio recording of this exist? Anyone seen or own it? I'd love to know who sang what.

I think most Montreux shows are recorded and many have recently been released on DVD. I can understand the band not particularly wanting this to come out as it's not exactly The Pogues at their peak, but it sounds like a fascinating piece of Pogues history. It would be great to see it.

Which set list is correct? The one from the Montreaux page is completely different to the one from pogueslive.com

I've no idea which is correct, but the set list on the Montreaux site has some unusual songs listed; "It's Hard" was a single Darryl wrote in one of his previous groups, Plummet Airlines. I've never heard of "Reptile"- anyone else heard of it?

The setlist from pogueslive is the correct one.

My opinions on the show:

Darryl does a good job with most of the singing. Although, it is a very different sound to the original Pogues lineup
